“Irony Coated“ - Conceptual Packaging Design

This project explores the cultural and emotional climate surrounding Brexit through the metaphor of medicine — "a hard pill to swallow."

I designed fictional pharmaceutical packaging that plays on the idea of choice and uncertainty. The pills come in red and blue variations, but the black plastic wrapping conceals which one the buyer receives, reflecting the unpredictability and confusion of the Brexit process.

The ingredients list humorously represents the UK population through percentages of different groups, pointing to the diverse identities within Britain. The front carries the phrase “Irony Coated”, alongside a satirical reimagining of the Bayer logo as “BYE BYE”.

The result is a piece of speculative design that uses satire and irony to turn a political event into a tangible, thought-provoking object. Rather than making a statement for or against Brexit, the project reflects on its complexity, absurdity, and the way it was experienced.
